My love of animals started at a very early age, when I became fascinated with horses and started to ride at the age of five. When I left school, I chose to go and work with horses, before opening up my own shop in 2007 selling equestrian goods, Equessentials.

Dogs have always been part of my life, my husband, Ian, and I, have always had two dogs (one dog each stops the arguments!), a German Shepherd and some sort of rescue crossbreed.

I have always been very drawn to the rehabilitation of animals, in particular horses and dogs, and my very first German Shepherd, Khan, inspired me to learn more as he needed a lot of therapeutic treatment and care in the latter part of his life, due to suffering from Degenerative Myelopathy (CDRM). My thirst for knowledge only increased when I bought an ex-racehorse, Maggie, with many behavioural and physical issues. Kipp was my second German Shepherd, who is sadly no longer with me, who tragically at the age of 9 months old, suffered a spinal injury. At this time, I was in constant discussion with Vets and various canine therapists, and I started his rehabilitation in earnest. Through his rehabilitation programme, I heard about Julia Robertson and The Galen Myotherapy Centre, and I took Kipp along to meet Julia. Kipp responded very well to Myotherapy treatment, and I noticed that Julia also had a deep understanding of canine behaviour, and a strong bond was formed between therapist and dog (this is essential for effective Myotherapy treatment). Kipp was an incredibly special boy, and lived to nearly 9 years old, with Myotherapy being an integral part of managing his various conditions. I now have my third German Shepherd, a rescue boy called King, who has taught me even more about the correlation between behavioural issues and chronic pain, as he was an exceptionally nervous dog to begin with.
My experiences with my own animals started me on a journey which ultimately led me to complete my Galen Myotherapy Diploma, and I now get immense pleasure helping other people’s dogs rehabilitate, improving their quality of life, and “Enriching the lives of dogs”.
